Rejoicing In God's Love

Text: Psalm 31:1-8: Title Rejoicing In God's Love

Speaker: Dr. SJ Bowers President  Bowers Bible Institute

We can rejoice in God's love because;

I.    He is worthy of our trust

II.   He sees our trouble

III.  He cares about our anguish

IV.  He sets us in a safe place

Introduction:

–One of the most well known stories of the bible is the story illustrating the wisdom of Solomon  .
–Solomon was king after his father David had conquered all of the surrounding nations and Israel was rich and powerful and at peace.
–Solomon had gained the reputation of being the wisest king in history.
–One day two women came to him with a desperate problem that put that reputation to a test.
–The two women, the bible says that they were harlots, these two women lived in the same house and they each had a newborn baby boy.
–One morning one of the women discovered that her son had died in the night and so she switched her dead baby with the live baby from the other woman’s bed.
–So they came to Solomon each woman arguing that the live baby was hers and the dead baby belonged to the other woman.
–So Solomon had to decide which of these two women was telling the truth and which was lying.
–They did not have dna tests in those days so Solomon had to use other means to make his decision.
–If you know the story, you know that Solomon declared that he could not decide which woman was telling the truth and which woman was lying.
–So he sent for the royal axe man and ordered the royal axe man to cut the baby in half and to give half to one woman and half to the other woman.
–One woman said fine, at least this woman  won’t get to keep my baby.
–But the other woman said please King, don’t kill my baby, give him to her, let her have him, but let him live.
–Solomon of course knew who the true mother was from the way each woman reacted to the thought of the baby being destroyed.
–The real mother cared for the condition of her child. The real mother would make any sacrifice for the sake of her child even if that meant giving him up.
–The real mother’s love prompted her to act on behalf of her child.
–As we go thru this life’s journey there are many situations that we encounter in this life that threaten to chop us in two.
–But we can rejoice because we have an even greater love working on our behalf than the love of a mother.
–We have the love of God.

We can rejoice in God’s love because He cares for the condition of our souls.

–David in the psalms wrote more about the love of God than any other Old Testament character. And he knew what he was talking about.
–David trusted in the love of God. We also should trust in the love of God.
–Throughout the Bible, Old Testament and New, God gives us the assurance that once we trust Him, we can begin to rejoice.
–But the question is how can we justify rejoicing in the midst of devastating times?
–How does a close relationship with God bring about this joy that we talk about so much?
–Well the answer is in the text so let’s turn to the text to discover the justifications for rejoicing in God’s love...
